International Journal of Latin American Religions - Call for Papers: Religious change and recent religious trends in contemporary Chile

In recent decades, Chile has experienced profound and rapid shifts in its religious landscape, including the institutional crisis and decline of Catholicism, the emergence and consolidation of Pentecostal Evangelism, and the growth of religiously unaffiliated individuals. These changes have had significant implications for culture and various aspects of social life.

We welcome submissions of articles addressing different facets of religious change (and continuity) in contemporary Chile. The aim of this special issue is to explore these transformations and their impacts across diverse dimensions of social life, focusing particularly on topics such as secularization and pluralism, the deinstitutionalization of religious beliefs and practices, the increasing significance of individual agency and choice, and the enduring vitality of popular religiosity.

Submission Deadline: August 15, 2024

Guest Editors: Maureen Neckelmann  (Instituto de Sociología/Centro de Estudios de la Religión/Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile) y Eduardo Valenzuela  (Instituto de Sociología /Escuela de Gobierno/Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile)
