Euro-Mediterranean Journal for Environmental Integration - Call for Paper

The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus Approach to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

The journal's special issue on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus Approach aims to explore the transformative potential of this integrated framework in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With an increasing global population and growing resource demands, the interconnectedness of water, energy, food, and ecosystems has become evident. This special issue seeks to highlight innovative research and practical applications that address the challenges posed by these interdependent sectors and their influence on sustainable development.
Authors are invited to submit papers that delve into various aspects of the WEFE Nexus Approach, its policy implications, and its role in advancing multiple SDGs simultaneously. We welcome case studies, empirical research, theoretical analyses, and cross-disciplinary studies that shed light on the importance of adopting a holistic approach to resource management.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Interconnections and dependencies between water, energy, food, and ecosystems.
  • Successful applications of the WEFE Nexus Approach in real-world projects and initiatives.
  • The role of the WEFE Nexus in achieving specific SDGs, such as Zero Hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Food, Water, and more.
  • Policy and governance implications for integrating the WEFE Nexus into sustainable development strategies.
  • Climate change impacts and resilience measures within the WEFE Nexus context.
  • Technological innovations supporting resource efficiency and sustainability.
