Call for Papers: Poverty Alleviation, Good Governance and Political Effects: A Comparative Perspective
Poverty and politics are interrelated in complex ways. On the one hand, improved governance plays a central role in combating poverty. Good governance requires state capability, responsiveness and accountability. It means making government work for the poor. On the other hand, the effectiveness and limitations of different poverty-reduction strategies also generate political consequences. Poverty alleviation efforts have an effect on state governance, political legitimacy and political development. The current scholarship on poverty alleviation has been dominated by economic studies. However, political science can offer insights into poverty alleviation and make theoretical contributions to governance scholarship.
