Aims and scope

Zeitschrift für Weiterbildungsforschung (ZfW) – Journal for Research on Adult Education is the leading academic journal for research debates and findings in the field of adult and continuing education and associated disciplines. It was launched in the 1970s as the first and only German academic journal dedicated exclusively to adult education. Since 2015, ZfW has been published as an open access journal with the editorial infrastructure being provided by the Deutsches Institut für Erwachsenenbildung (“German Institute for Adult Education“).

The journal presents high-quality research findings addressing all aspects of adult learning. Supporting the exchange with all academic disciplines involved in continuing education, ZfW focuses on the academic debate on adult education and learning. In particular, the journal contributes to the integration of German adult education in the international context and opens the horizon for future research. All original articles undergo a double-blind peer review process in accordance with international standards.

While the journal primarily publishes German-language research, the editorial board welcomes manuscripts submitted in English.
