Announcement on changes of Editors-in-Chief of Urban Rail Transit
Firstly, it is with deep pain and sadness to inform that the former Editor-in-Chief of Urban Rail Transit, Dr. Bin Ning, passed away on June 14th, 2019. Dr. Bin Ning was a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Dr. Ning was also the former president of Beijing Jiaotong University, China. Dr. Ning developed the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) technology and the integrated system which is currently widely applied in many urban rail transit lines of China. We greatly appreciated Dr. Ning’s contribution to Urban Rail Transit and mourned deeply for losing such a good Editor-in-Chief.
To continue the obligations of running the journal well, the board of Editors-in-Chief held a meeting on July 10th, 2019 and appointed Dr. Baoming Han as the new Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Xuesong Zhou as the Executive Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Zhongheng Shi still acts as the Honorary Editor-in-Chief. Their appointments start from Sept. 1st, 2019.

Brief Introduction of the Editors-in-Chief
Honorary Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Zhongheng Shi, is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chief and leading expert in urban rail transit in China. Dr. Shi launched the journal of “Urban Rapid Rail Transit (in Chinese)” in 1988 and he drafted and developed most of the standards of metro design and construction.
Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Baoming Han, has been on the faculty at the Beijing Jiaotong University, School of Traffic and Transportation since 1987, he received his PhD in Engineering from University of Liege in Belgium in 1997. Currently, he is also the General Secretary of Experts and Academic Committee of China Association of Metros, Standing Vice-President of Manchurian Railway Information Research Branch, Standing Director and Deputy General Secretary of Chinese Society of Modern and Contemporary Historical Materials, Committee Member of Beijing Railway Society and vice director of its Academic Committee, Member of Academic Committee of Beijing Jiaotong University, member of Hong Kong Transport Research Association, member of China Railway Association and member of the Urban Rail Transit Technical Committee of China Civil Engineering Society. Since 1998, he has presided over and has been responsible for more than 100 scientific research projects, including 29 national and ministerial research projects, such as "Research on Data Management Technology of Intelligent Transportation System", a major project of the National Tenth Five-Year Plan of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He authored or co-authored nearly 100 peer-reviewed research publications, including 7 monographs such as Introduction to High-speed Railway. He has set up five academic journals and served as editor-in-chief of Traffic History Research, Editor-in-chief of Manchurian Railway Research, President of Urban Express Rail Transport, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Urban Rail Transit, Editorial Board of Journal of Beijing Jiaotong University (Social Science Edition).
Executive Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Xuesong Zhou, is an Associate Professor of Transportation Systems in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Zhou’s research work focuses on dynamic traffic assignment, traffic estimation and prediction, large-scale routing and rail application. He was the formal Chair of INFORMS Rail Application Section (2016), and the Co-Chair of the IEEE ITS Society Technical Committee on Traffic. He has published more than 50 papers related to dynamic traffic assignment and rail operations research in many journals.
