International Journal of Coal Science & Technology - Special Issue on Health, Safety and Sustainability in Mining Operations
As underground coal extractions progress into deep and gassy coal seams with complex geological formations, the prevention and control of several principal mining hazards are presenting significant challenges to mine safety and productivity, including but not limited to ground or strata failure, inundation or inrush of any substance, gas outbursts, coal/rock bursts, spontaneous combustion/heating, subsidence, dust or other airborne contaminants, fire or explosion, etc. To develop innovative robust and effective solutions and best practices for addressing these complex engineering problems and minimizing environmental impacts associated with mining activities, there is a critical need to advance knowledge and technologies, share insights and expertise, and foster discussion and collaboration among researchers, industrial professionals, and stakeholders. The publication of this special issue is essential to advance safety, sustainability and innovation in the mining industry, further contributing significantly to the ongoing global transition toward a low-carbon economy and the reduction of environmental footprints. In this special issue, we invite high-quality submissions on the following topics, although they are not limited to:
- Ground pressure and strata control technology
- Smart mining and safety monitoring technology
- Theory and technology for coal burst and mine earthquake prevention
- Theory and technology for gas control and utilization
- Theory and practices of mine dust control
- Health and safety in mines
- Emergency management and information technology
- Post-mining rehabilitation and ecological restoration technology
- Carbon capture and reduction technology
