International Journal of Coal Science & Technology - Special Issue on Management and Control of Dynamic Hazards in Underground Mines

Introduction of the special issue:

As underground coal extraction progresses into deep and gassy coal seams, several dynamic hazards are presenting significant challenges to mine safety and productivity, including but not limited to coal/rock bursts, coal and gas outbursts, air/wind blasts, ground strata failures, dust/gas explosion. To manage and mitigate these engineering problems, there is a need to gain critical knowledge of the mechanism and contributing factors behind these dynamic hazards. Armed with this knowledge, mining engineers and safety experts can develop and implement robust and effective control strategies to tackle each hazard specifically. In this special issue, we invite high-quality submissions on the following topics, although they are not limited to:

  • Rock/coal burst: mechanism, monitoring and best mitigation practices
  • Coal and gas outburst: prediction, monitoring and controls
  • Air/wind blast
  • Case studies of risk management including catastrophic ground strata failures
  • Impact of ground water on dynamics events
  • Impact of dust/gas explosions
  • Innovative research and practices in sustainable green mining.
