Celebrating Special Issue publication: Invitation to CalcConf 1+3𝜀

Celebrating IJRUME Issue 8(2), a Special Issue!

As colleagues may know, a conference, co-organised by Tommy Dreyfus, John Monaghan and Elena Nardi, on the learning and teaching of calculus took place in August 2019 at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway. Following the meeting – and in anticipation of the second conference to be held in Bergen, Norway (5-9 June, 2023) co-organised also by Pat Thompson and  Alejandro S. González-Martín – a series of virtual events are being held presenting outstanding developments in research on the learning and teaching of calculus.

The first virtual event, Calc 1+𝜀, was hosted in June 2021 by Pat Thompson and Guershon Harel and focussed on their co-edited ZDM Special issue on calculus entitled Calculus in High School and College Around the World.

A second virtual event, CalcConf 1+2𝜀, was hosted in May 2022 by the guest editors of a calculus-focussed Special Issue that emerged from discussions at the first conference in 2019. This Special Issue was edited by Rogier Bos, Anatoli Kouropatov and Osama Swidan, was published in Teaching Mathematics and Its Applications (TMA) and is entitled Tools to Support Meaning-Making in Calculus and Pre-Calculus Education.

We are now delighted to announce the plans for a third virtual event, CalcConf 1+3𝜀!

The focus of this third event will be on a further calculus-focused Special Issue that also emerged from discussions at the first conference in 2019, is guest edited by Irene Biza, Alejandro S. González-Martín and Alon Pinto, has just appeared in the IJRUME and is entitled Calculus at the Intersection of Institutions, Disciplines and Communities.

During the event, there will be opportunities for Q&A with the authors and discussions on possible foci for future research in calculus education.

SAVE THE DATE:

The CalcConf 1+3𝜀 event will be held on Thursday 22 September 2022, 17:00 (CET) – 18:30 (CET)

REGISTRATION is FREE (but compulsory) at:
