Complex & Intelligent Systems - Special Issue on

Big data Analytics and Knowledge Discovery for Urban Computing and Intelligence

Aims and Scope

The world’s population is moving rapidly towards urbanization and it is estimated that in the next three decades almost two-third of the world population will live in urban areas. Urban planners therefore need efficient techniques for managing the land use and infrastructure management. The availability of correct, timely and insightful data plays a vital role in the development of efficient urban management and smart cities. The area of urban computing and intelligence involves the development of techniques that bring in solutions for ubiquitous sensing, intelligent computing, cooperative communication and mass data management technologies to create novel solutions to improve urban environments, quality of life and smart city systems.

Urban computing and intelligence is an umbrella under which technologies like Internet of Things, Distributed Computing, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning integrate. The integration of these technologies has drawn a lot of research interest from industry as well as Academia. The various areas that can benefit from data analytics are sustainable urban development, urban zoning, and population density mapping, housing provision, traffic management, city infrastructure management, law enforcement and planning the cities of the future. The special issue aims to bring high quality research papers for urban computing and Intelligence. The SI mainly focuses on techniques involving machine learning, IoT sensor data, and smart city applications and so on. The topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Machine learning Models
  • Intelligent and connected infrastructure systems
  • Intelligent Transport Systems for Smarter Cities
