History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences - Topical Collection – Instructions for Guest Editors

Procedure for handling topical collections is along the following steps:

1. Send proposal for topical collections to the HPLS editors-in-chief (Giovanni Boniolo and Sabina Leonelli), including a brief description of the topic, a tentative schedule for submission, a list of contributors with titles and abstracts, and the CV of prospective guest editors.

2. Once received the initial expression of interest from HPLS editors, assemble the topical collection and send all the papers and the introduction to the HPLS editors via email for an initial informal review.

3. Once the HPLS editors approve the submission of the topical collection for review, they will make sure that the guest editors are added to the Editorial Manager System of Springer as an associate editor.

4. The guest editors will thereby be responsible for getting individual authors to submit their papers to the system and manage the peer review of each paper by allocating it to reviewers and acquiring at least two reviews per paper.

5. Once both reviews are received for any one paper, the guest editors will submit their recommendation to the HPLS editors in chief, who will then take a final decision on the basis of the material submitted and all the recommendations.

6. The papers will be published soon after being accepted, and will therefore appear online in an order that may differ from the order of the topical collection, however

Springer will arrange the papers accordingly as soon as they are all online.
