Computational Particle Mechanics - Discrete and Particle Methods in Solid and Structural Mechanics

Guest Editor
Eduardo M. B. Campello, University of São Paulo, Brazil

Opening date for submissions: January 1, 2024
Deadline for submissions: July 31, 2024

Description
The special issue is dedicated to the invited session “Discrete and Particle Methods in Solid and Structural Mechanics”, to be held at the VIII International Conference on Particle-Based Methods (PARTICLES-2023 (this opens in a new tab)). The collection will summarize state-of-the-art contributions to particle-based methods related to computational solid and structural mechanics, including (but not only) multiscale and multifield problems, machine learning techniques and advanced applications. The contributions will be selected from among the best contributions to the invited session, presented by experts in the field.

Submission guidelines
Interested authors should consult the journal’s “Submission Guidelines” at https://www.springer.com/journal/40571/submission-guidelines (this opens in a new tab).
Articles can be submitted through Editorial Manager: https://www.editorialmanager.com/jcpm/default.aspx (this opens in a new tab)

Please indicate that you wish your manuscript to be considered for the special issue on "Robotics for exploration and science in extreme environments". All submitted papers will be reviewed as soon as they are received.

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation by at least two reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editors-in-Chief.

Accepted papers are published Online First until the complete Special Issue is published.

Guest Editor biography:
Eduardo M. B. Campello is Associate Professor at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering in the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute for Computational Mechanics in the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany (2006), and a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley, USA (2012-2014). He holds MSc and DSc degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of São Paulo (2000 and 2005, respectively), and Habilitation in Solid Mechanics from the University of São Paulo (2016). His research efforts are focused on theoretical, numerical and applied aspects of computational mechanics that are associated with two main subjects: (1) granular, particulate and discrete media and (2) thin structures (beams, shells and membranes). He has published related works in about 80 papers in scholarly journals and international conference proceedings. He is the former president of the Brazilian Association for Computational Methods in Engineering (ABMEC), from 2016 to 2020, and member of the General Council of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM), since 2016. He is member of the Editorial Board of the scholarly journals Computational Particle Mechanics (Springer-Nature) and Archive of Applied Mechanics (Springer-Nature), and head of the Computational Mechanics Laboratory of the University of São Paulo.
