Eating and Weight Disorders - Studies on Anorexia, Bulimia and Obesity - Sleep and Eating and Weight Disorders: a topical collection

Guest Editor: Caterina Lombardo (caterina.lombardo@uniroma1.it)

The Topical Collection Sleep and Eating and Weight Disorders collects contributions addressing the relationship between sleep, poor sleep (i.e. short sleep or sleep of low quality) and sleep disorders as correlates or transdiagnostic etiological factors for obesity and eating disorders. Both reviews or research papers addressing these issues in both humans and animals are welcome. Moreover, studies addressing mediators or moderators of these relationships are particularly relevant. Among the mediating/moderating variables, age and gender have received great attention in the scientific literature: studies conducted in older are few; in children there is a consensual agreement in recognizing poor sleep as a risk factor for obesity while in adults there may be other variables that influence this relationship like, for instance, gender (males with poor sleep are more at risk of developing obesity), eating habits and depression. Other variables whose moderating role in the adults merits to be further studied are acute and chronic stress and emotional eating. Studies addressing Nocturnal Eating and Nocturnal Eating Syndrome are also appropriate for the topical collection.
