Aims and scope
Progress in Orthodontics is a fully open access, international journal owned by the Italian Society of Orthodontics and published under the brand SpringerOpen.
It is a premier journal of international scope that fosters orthodontic research, including both basic research and development of innovative clinical techniques, with an emphasis on the following areas:
• Mechanisms to improve orthodontics
• Clinical studies and control animal studies
• Orthodontics and genetics, genomics
• Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) control clinical trials
• Efficacy of orthodontic appliances and animal models
• Systematic reviews and meta analyses
• Mechanisms to speed orthodontic treatment
Progress in Orthodontics will consider for publication only meritorious and original contributions. These may be:
• Original articles reporting the findings of clinical trials, clinically relevant basic scientific investigations, or novel therapeutic or diagnostic systems
• Review articles on current topics
• Articles on novel techniques and clinical tools
• Articles of contemporary interest
Submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two referees.
Editor-in-Chief
Nikolaos Pandis, DDS, MS, Dr med. dent. MSc, DLSHTM, PhD, MS, University of Bern, Switzerland
Dr Pandis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, University of Bern Switzerland. He completed his DDS at the University of Athens, Greece and his orthodontic training at The Ohio State University, USA, followed by a fellowship in surgical orthodontics at the University of Texas, Dallas.
He holds a Dr Med Dent in orthodontic biomechanics from the University of Bonn, Germany, an MSc in clinical trials from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK, a PhD in Epidemiology from the Medical School at the University of Ioannina, Greece and an MS in Biostatistics from the University of Hasselt, Belgium.
Dr Pandis has published over 400 scientific publications in peer-reviewed biomedical journals and 2 books in clinical orthodontics and clinical research methodology. He has served in the editorial board of several major orthodontic and dental journals. Besides his academic activities, he maintains a private orthodontic practice in Corfu, Greece and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO)
Progress in Orthodontics is affiliated with SIDO, a non-profit scientific association based in Milan, which was founded in 1968. The mission of SIDO is to provide continuing education and support to its members, to be an adviser and consultant on Orthodontic issues and guidelines at the EU, at the Italian Ministry of Health and Education and at the governmental agencies both centrally and locally, to support regional and local programs and campaigns of orthodontic screening of the population as well as orthodontic care to disadvantaged children.
