European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology - Call for Papers: Perspectives in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal tumours

Transoral laser microsurgery is considered one of the main options in the treatment of early glottic carcinoma (Tis–T2), do it to the good functional and oncological outcomes, representing a safe alternative in larynx preservation protocols. In the recent years, the development and improvement of laser devices and the introduction of new energy sources allow surgeons to improve surgical results, compared with classic cold dissection, also improving results in laser-assisted phonosurgery. Moreover, new evidence suggest improvement oncological results, voice, and quality of life, related to the use of imaging technology like narrow-band imaging, which improves the clinical and intraoperative evaluation. Other advances like the implementation of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance during preoperative evaluation, the use of artificial intelligence for laryngeal image analysis or the proposal of new oncological and non-oncological classifications, suggests an exciting future for this technique.
