Journal of the Korean Physical Society - KPS Publication Policy and System Change Announcement

The Journal of Korean Physical Society (JKPS), the only comprehensive SCI-class journal in the field of physics in Korea, is currently undergoing the development plan JKPS2024 to overcome challenges such as stagnant citation rates and decreasing submissions, aiming to restore the journal to its normal state. As the first step of this plan, we are implementing the following improvements to the publication system:

1. Discontinuation of Emergency Submission System (Starting from January 01, 2024)
To normalize the submission, review, and publication processes of JKPS, we will discontinue the emergency submission system (including the emergency submission fee) starting in 2024. From then on, all submitted papers will go through the same review and publication procedures. This will ensure that all submissions receive the same treatment as was provided for emergency submissions.

2. Utilization of the Springer-Nature Publishing System (SNAPP) (During the first half of 2024)
In order to address the inefficiencies and slowed publication speed caused by the dichotomy between the submission and review system and the publication system, starting in 2024, we will use the Springer-Nature publishing system (SNAPP) for all processes from submission to publication. With the integration of submission, review, and publication into a single system, we anticipate a significant enhancement in the processing speed of all papers.

We aim to restore JKPS to its rightful status as a reputable academic journal with scholarly value through these system improvements. We will continue to communicate with our members and gather feedback on our efforts toward the revitalization of JKPS. Our goal is to achieve tangible results in the restoration process.
