Computational Statistics - Special Issue on Sports Data Science

Sports data analysis is a hot topic that has garnered increasing attention in recent years. This is demonstrated by the extensive body of scientific work in this field and the publication of numerous insightful collections that feature statistical analyses applied to various sports such as soccer, tennis, American football, baseball, basketball, hockey, cricket, and many others.

We encourage researchers to submit articles for a special issue focused on advanced statistical models and algorithms in the field of sports analytics, encompassing both theoretical issues and practical applications.

Submissions should cover significant advancements, developments, and real-world applications within the realm of statistical data analysis. We welcome contributions that combine methodology and practice across a wide spectrum of sports disciplines, both for professional and non-professional sports. Novelty of the proposed methods and practical relevance of the applications will be held in the highest regard: all submissions should deal with statistical techniques demonstrated and implemented with the highest standards of accuracy, either newly developed by the authors within their papers or already present in the literature, but in contexts different from sports. The submissions should elucidate how the utilization of these models contributes to the generation of significant new insights into the analysed sport.

In order to enable readers to replicate the findings showcased in published articles, authors are strongly encouraged to offer access to data and software resources as electronic supplements.
