Additive manufacturing technology can be successfully applied to several engineering applications to improve weight-saving and to overcome the limitation associated to the main subtractive manufacturing techniques for metallic, composites and hybrid structural components.
In this special issue, attention will be focused on the improvements, in terms of crashworthiness, energy absorption and impact characteristics, of primary aerospace structures manufactured through additive manufacturing technologies.
