The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review - Welcome to our new Editor Roberto Maiolino!

May 2024

New Content ItemRoberto Maiolino from the University of Cambridge, UK, has joined the Editorial Board of The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review

He is professor of Experimental Astrophysics at the Cavendish Laboratory and Kavli Institute for Cosmology, University of Cambridge, and also Honorary Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University College London. From 2016 to 2021 he was Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmology.

Roberto Maiolino is active in various areas of extragalactic astronomy, and in particular in the observational investigation of the formation, evolution and transformation of galaxies and black holes. His focus is on the search and characterisation of the first generation of stars and black holes in the early Universe, the chemical evolution of galaxies and of the intergalactic medium, the evolution of the gas and dust content in galaxies, and the mechanisms responsible for quenching star formation in galaxies. He exploits multi-wavelength observations obtained at some of the major telescopes, both ground-based and in space.

Already a co-author of three review articles in A&A Review (2019 (this opens in a new tab), 2020 (this opens in a new tab), 2024 (this opens in a new tab)), he has also led a 2024 Nature publication (this opens in a new tab) on the formation of black hole seeds in the early Universe.
