Journal of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology - Special Issue (September 2024): Integrated omics approaches for biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in plants

Global crop production faces significant challenges from both biotic and abiotic stress, resulting in substantial yield losses. A in-depth understanding of plant responses under stress conditions is crucial for developing stress-resilient varieties. Omics approaches stand out as highly efficient tools for gaining a better understanding of plant responses. Transcriptomics and genomics are widely explored omics tools for identifying genes that regulate stress tolerance and molecular pathways.

Despite extensive exploration of genomics and transcriptomics, there have been relatively limited efforts in proteomics and phenomics, likely due to higher costs and the need for advanced facilities. Integrating different omics tools significantly enhances our efficiency in comprehending complex molecular pathways. Numerous studies have combined genomics and transcriptomics to dissect quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and identify candidate genes. Similarly, the integration of transcriptomics and proteomics has proven effective in elucidating molecular pathways and genetic regulation.

This special issue aims to efficiently compile and publish articles exploring various omics tools for understanding stress tolerance mechanisms in plants. We welcome original research articles, short communications, method papers, software tools, and review articles that used omics for stress tolerance in crops. Contributions that explore the interplay of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and phenomics are particularly encouraged, as they are pivotal in comprehending the intricate landscape of stress tolerance mechanisms in plants.
