Dissolving microneedle patch is a minimally invasive and painless self-administration device. However, due to skin deformation, it is difficult to apply it on the large areas of skin or curved skin. Here, we propose a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)–based dissolving microneedle roller (DMNR) device that can be used for rapid delivery of drugs on the large surface areas or curved skin while shortening the time of attachment. The hypoglycemic effect of transdermal insulin delivery via insulin-loaded DMNRs was studied on type 1 diabetic rat models. The insulin-loaded DMNR exhibited an immediate and effective hypoglycemic effect that the blood glucose level reduced to less than 50% of the original level 1 hour after the DMNP application.
