SERIEs - Call for Papers - Special Issue on Recent Global Shocks: Consequences and Policies

Guest Editors:

Manuel García Santana (World Bank, UPF, CREi, BSE, CEPR)

Enrique Moral Benito (Banco de España)

Scope: Over the last few years, a variety of supply-driven and global-in-nature shocks hit developed economies: from the Covid-19 pandemic to the war in Ukraine, also including other related disturbances such as supply chain disruptions, the surge in energy prices and climate change, and turmoil in the financial sector. These shocks have important economic consequences and lead governments to adopt policies to mitigate their adverse effects on households and companies worldwide. This Special Issue aims to understand better the economic implications of such an unprecedented sequence of shocks. For that purpose, we invite researchers to submit papers on related topics including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Aggregate effects and propagation of sector-specific shocks
  • Heterogeneous effects of the pandemic and energy crisis across firms and households
  • The distributional consequences of recent shocks across and within countries
  • The role of support policies and fiscal stimuli (e.g. NGEU)
  • The role of monetary policy and the financial sector in the current context
  • The long-run effects of the Covid-19 pandemic
  • The recent surge in energy prices and its implications for climate change
  • Geopolitical tensions, international sanctions and the future of globalization

Submission Deadline: November 15, 2023
