Applied Water Science explores water scarcity solutions from a holistic system oriented viewpoint. From the sustainable management of natural water resources to the development of the technologies and infrastructure for the production of clean fresh water from natural and waste water. The journal accepts innovative and sound theoretical research on different water issues, exploring potential alternative water sources via recycling and reuse of wastewater with a focus on arid and semiarid environments and the following topics; water desalination, drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, water resources planning, investigation and management.

Applied Water Science is an Open Access journal (supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology – KACST) free to read and free to submit for all. Article-processing charges are covered for all authors. It accepts original and review articles as well as book reviews for publication. All the manuscripts are single-blind peer-reviewed for scientific quality and acceptance.

Applied Water Science has moved to a continuous publication model in January 2017. This means that as soon as an article is ready to be published, it will be immediately released online rather than waiting for other articles in the issue to be completed, resulting in faster access to the final version of the article, thereby making research available for the community as quickly as possible, which is beneficial for both readers and authors.

Applied Water Science publishes 12 issues annually (one issue per month) following the continuous publication model.

Applied Water Science is indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) of the Web of Science, and as such, it is discoverable on Web of Science with full citation counts, author information and other enrichment. Moreover, articles are included in the authors’ h-index calculation.

Applied Water Science is committed to upholding the integrity of the scientific record. As a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) the journal will follow the COPE guidelines on how to deal with potential acts of misconduct. Authors should refrain from misrepresenting research results which could damage the trust in the journal and ultimately the entire scientific endeavor. Maintaining integrity of the research and its presentation can be achieved by following the rules of good scientific practice as detailed here: https://www.springer.com/us/editorial-policies
