GEM - International Journal on Geomathematics - EGU's Vening Meinesz medal 2020

The necessity and outstanding importance of the research on mathematical methodologies in Earth Sciences is underlined by the EGU's Vening Meinesz medal 2020, which goes to Willi Freeden

Willi Freeden has dedicated his scientific life to geomathematics, the mathematics which is needed to model and understand the system Earth in its whole complexity. His work has greatly influenced major parts of modern geodesy. We take pride in the fact that he is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of our journal "GEM - International Journal on Geomathematics".

Due to new satellite missions and enormous improvements in measurement technologies, it is expected that this new quality is reflected in high-resolution and high-accuracy models and reliable analyses and forecasts. These goals can only be achieved by revising established mathematical modelling techniques and developing more modern numerical methods.  We welcome publications from scientists who work on such methodological objectives in all sections of Earth sciences.
