Description
An important contribution to addressing the challenges in caregiving is to support elderly and disabled individuals, as well as caregivers and nursing professionals in nursing homes, hospitals, or at home, through the use of robotic systems. The extent to which robotics can and should be employed in these areas is currently being discussed from ethical and scientific perspectives in the scientific community as well as the public domain.
We invite researchers from nursing science, technical sciences, ethics, social sciences, and related disciplines who have conducted research in this area to submit articles on these issues.
One of the objectives of this special issue is to present the empirical findings of the funding line to the scientific community.
All articles should take an interdisciplinary view of the topic, include technical procedures, as well as perspectives from social science, nursing science, and ethical science. To place the results in an international context and to address the global state of research, submissions from interdisciplinary research teams worldwide are welcomed.

The special issue is created as submission questionnaire in the system. When you submit your paper you will be asked if your paper belongs to a special issue. Please answer yes, and then select “Robotic Systems for Nursing Care” from the pull-down menu.
All submitted papers will be reviewed on a peer review basis as soon as they are received. Accepted papers will become immediately available Online First until the complete Special Issue appears.
Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation by at least two reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editors-in-Chief.

Prof. Dr. Manfred Hülsken-Giesler, nursing scientist and professional educator, Chair for nursing science, Osnabrück University; Institute for Health Research and Education; Department of Nursing Science. Research focus: new technologies in health and nursing care, future research in nursing care and health, University education in health and nursing, fundamental research.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Hein, Head of the Division Assistance Systems and Medical Technology, Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Dept. of Care Research. Research focus: Epidemiology of care, Quality of care and structures, Data integration/analysis, technology implementation.
Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller, Chair of Information Systems, esp. IT for the Aging Society at Siegen University. Research focus: Practice-based and participatory design of socio-technical infrastructures and digital solutions in the field of "health & aging".
Dr. Sibylle Meyer, Proprietor and managing director of SIBIS – Institute for social research and project consultancy, Berlin. Research focus: assistance robotics, assistance at home, Health and care assistance systems, assistance at the workplace, ethical questions.
Dr. Naonori Kodate, Associate Professor in Social Policy and Social Robotics and the founding Director of the Centre for Japanese Studies at University College Dublin. Research focus: Science and Technology Studies – cross-country / cross-cultural analysis (e.g. use of robots in care settings; patient safety & organizational learning; gender equality and diversity in STEM education).
Prof. Dr. Mark Ackerman, George Herbert Mead Collegiate Professor of Human-Computer Interaction, Professor of Information, School of Information, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering and Professor of Learning Health Sciences, Medical School at University of Michigan. Research focus: Collective Intelligence and Organizational Technology, Health Informatics, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Science, Technology, and Society, Social Media and Social Computing, Ubiquitous Computing.
Dr. Marco Eichelberg, Head of the Automation and Integration Technology Group at the OFFIS-Institute for Information Technology’s R&D Division Health. Research focus: interoperability and security of systems processing and sharing medical information; secondary use of health data.
Dr. Richard Paluch is a Research Associate at the Chair of Information Systems, esp. IT for the Ageing Society at the University of Siegen, Germany. His research focuses on telemedicine and the robotization of care. He analyzes the possibilities and limitations of robotic systems for care and develops standards for reasoning and assessing care with robots.
Simone Lienenbrink is a Research Associate at Osnabrück University, Institute for Health Research and Education, Department of Nursing Science. Research focus: new technologies in health and nursing care, evaluation, lifelong learning.
