“Emerging Trends in Cybersecurity for Transportation Systems”

Information Technology (IT)-based security solutions are expected to be robust and resilient in covering the different functional elements of transportation systems based on data management, threat mitigation, and secure communication. The security measures for communication terminals, connected vehicles, and data centers must be administrated in a decentralized manner using advanced cybersecurity methods. Connected transportation systems and networks-based information-sharing infrastructures are exposed to threat vulnerability. Intelligent transportation systems are time-critical in which the significance of cybersecurity is immense for user safety, vehicle, and information security. The Transportation business is facing a spike in new threat vectors and an innovative degree of cyber risk, owing to the rapid adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Information Technology (IT) solutions.

IoT terminals, physically distributed global scale and connecting to the internet by various protocols, sensitive to data security, confidentiality, and safeguarding key aspects and transactions. Smart transportation systems can run comprehensive checks of vulnerabilities to identify risks and current abuses in the transportation sector. To create a minimum-security base, static and dynamic testing should be performed for IoT-connected computers in transportation systems. Dynamic scanning captures show code bugs and underlying hardware flaws or vulnerabilities in transportation systems. This plays a key role in detecting vulnerabilities, particularly when a new code on older processors is used. The challenges of traditional security measures are its application-dependent support, complications, lack of artificial intelligence(AI) analytics, and misconfiguration. Therefore, to satisfy the need for multi-dimensional security, sophisticated cybersecurity integrating AI and machine learning is prominent. In recent trends, blockchain, contract security, game-theoretic approaches, and intelligent learning-based innovations are feasible with cybersecurity measures for transportation systems. The outdated conventional security measures provided less standardizing for complex information management. The scope of cybersecurity solutions for transportation systems provide decentralized and dynamic security features coping up with the users' needs, vehicles, and data exchange. Cybersecurity aimed to measure exploited sophisticated cloud and communication technologies, transport policies, and other authentication methods for providing reliable, robust, and resilient solutions for transportation systems.

This special issue invites submissions under cybersecurity for transportation systems, digital development, and automation market of the transportation and is not limited to the following:
