Journal of Labor Research - Call for Editor-in-Chief

Springer Science + Business Media is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Labor Research. The Journal of Labor Research is  a peer reviewed, interdisciplinary and international journal focusing on empirical and theoretical research on labor economics. The journal receives submissions relating to labor markets and employment relations, including labor demand and supply, personnel economics, unions and collective bargaining, employee participation, dispute resolution, labor market policies, types of employment relationships, the interplay between labor market variables and policy issues in labor economics. The Journal of Labor Research also publishes book reviews relating to these topics.

The ideal candidate for the Editor-in-Chief position will be active in the field of labor research.  Duties include working with the Editorial Board in acquiring submissions  and  Co-Editors to facilitate the peer review process through the Editorial Managerâ„¢ peer review system.  Essential qualifications include a record of significant scholarly achievement at an international level, including significant personal experience in writing scientific papers, publishing scientific works, and serving as an Editorial Board member for a scientific publication.  Other essential qualifications include strong administrative and editorial skills; understanding of the international community of scholars and practitioners; and strong interpersonal skills.  The successful candidate will receive compensation based upon experience.

The primary responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief include the following:

-Provide overall leadership and direction for the Editorial Board, Co-Editors, and Reviewers

-Provide direction and careful consideration of all content submitted to the journal, with an eye toward maximum utilization of the content

-Encourage submissions of scientific manuscripts, including solicitation of review articles, editorials, and commentaries to the journal

-Direct and supervise an online peer review process that is both time-sensitive and equitable

-Work with the publisher to identify topics for publication as special issues or supplements to the journal

-Nominate international Associate Editors and members of the Editorial Board, in consultation with Springer

-Maintain regular communication with the Editorial Board, Co-Editors and Springer

Interested candidates should submit a full curriculum vitae and a vision statement outlining their qualifications, providing their views on the current status of the journal, and outlining their recommendations for enhancing the operations, quality, and reputation of the journal.  Applicants may also consider the following questions:

-Whom do you see as the Journal’s primary readership(s) and how does the journal serve them?

-In what ways would you envision taking the journal forward? Please feel free to suggest initiatives and innovations that could serve to raise its profile and/or to increase diversity and inclusion within its community.

-What are your views on industry trends, such as Open Access, data transparency, and replication, and what role do you see for the Journal with respect to these trends?

-How do you envision the editorial structure for the Journal? Would you suggest any changes to the current structure?

-If selected, when would you be available to take on the Editorship?

-Could you identify any areas that may be underrepresented in the Journal? If so, how would you address these deficits?

-How much experience do you have editing for journals?

-How much experience do you have with this kind of aim/scope/audience?
