Submission Status: Open   |   Submission deadline: 30 April 2024

Summary and scope
The extreme competitiveness in manufacturing sector is forcing manufactures to revise their manufacturing processes, resulting in the redesign of large structural and mechanical components. One such improvement is the manufacturing of substructures and joining them by suitable advanced welding processes. Latest technological developments in computational modeling, simulation and analysis of welding processes have enhanced the mechanical performance of welded joints.

The main objective of this Special Issue is to collect original research articles on computational welding of:

  • Advances in fusion and solid-state welding for joining light-weight materials
  • Development of high-performance welding technology for steel plates and pipes used in structural applications
  • Welding technology for coated and uncoated metal sheets used in automotive applications
  • Developments in Welding robot technology for fabrication works.

The following topics are of special interest:

  • Design of joints
  • Mathematical modeling and optimization of process parameters
  • Welding of advanced engineering materials
  • Microstructural characterization and mechanical properties of welded joints
  • Thermal and residual stress analysis
  • Prediction of joint characteristics

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI - Recent Advancements in Computational Welding of Engineering Materials".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
