Summary and scope
This Special Issue will particularly focus to emphasize the potential for interdisciplinary interactions between traditional modeling approaches and advanced modeling approaches that can include virtual manufacturing processes as a source of new information for sustainable product development.

  • Numerical methods based design optimization in turbo-machinery.
  • Advanced aerodynamics in turbo-machinery to control the instabilities.
  • Material loss control due to complex single phase and multiphase flows.
  • Various flow control phenomena in turbo-machinery in order to provide the steady flow.
  • Advanced intelligent systems in monitoring and diagnosis to turbo-machinery.

The following topics are of interest:

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Finite element method (FEM) based design optimization in turbo-machinery and their materials.
  • Advanced aerodynamics in turbo-machinery. Prediction of the unsteady wake flow characteristics in turbines.
  • Identification of rotating instability in rotor fan.
  • Acoustics characteristics in single- and double-stage turbines.
  • Pressure Instabilities during fluid flow: centrifugal/lobe pumps, ash disposal systems, slurry conveying systems, etc.
  • Particle image velocimetry (PIV) systems for the monitoring of multiphase flow inside turbo-machinery.
  • Flow control phenomenon in turbo-machinery including cross-flows: limited to vortex generators, compressor, cascades, channels, exchangers, etc.
  • Material loss control due to complex flow: limited to steam, multiphase liquids, and solid-liquids.
  • Experimentation and modelling of advanced material protection techniques: limited to thin and thick films, material simulation techniques and FEM modelling of films.
  • Computational and theoretical techniques in using shape memory and high entropy alloys in optimization of blades and impellers.
  • Advanced techniques in aerospace engineering for controlling the high temperature oxidation in gas turbines.
  • Artificial intelligence in turbo-machinery to control, diagnose, monitoring, and development.

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI - Computational Modelling, Designing, Optimization and Advances in Turbo-Machinery".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
