Summary and scope
This Special Issue primarily focuses on development, innovations and research optimizing manufacturing processes while processing Biomaterials. It will include articles regarding the optimum utilization of resources by using minimum effort to save cost and energy.

In today's cutting-edge society, researchers are more focused on cleaner production by employing the elimination of waste to achieve environmental sustainability. The cleaner approach not only aims at reducing waste, but also the development of materials with enhanced properties and functionality. The various manufacturing methods promoting sustainable and green manufacturing of biomaterials will be presented in a systematic manner. Various articles showcasing the challenges in achieving the environmental sustainability by novel approaches including both conventional as well as advanced such as additive manufacturing will be documented in a systematic manner.

This Special Issue disseminates recent research, theories, and practices relevant to areas of product design and manufacturing in the field of biomedical materials. It will be an amalgamation of design, modelling, both numerical and statistical investigations and review articles discussing the challenges and various case studies from the recent past.

The Special Issue aims to provide the framework showcasing the potential for interdisciplinary interactions between traditional and advanced manufacturing approaches that can include virtual manufacturing processes as a source of new information.

The following topics are of special interest:

  • Green manufacturing of biodegradable materials.
  • Novel design and sustainable approaches for development of the product for medical applications.
  • Numerical and computational modelling of the design of materials for biomedical application.
  • Design using Additive manufacturing for drug delivery systems.
  • Modelling and computation in 3D printing processes for biomaterials.
  • Development of bio-related polymeric and advanced metal matrix composite with sustainability approaches.
  • Life cycle assessment of bio-manufacturing methods.
  • Development of shape memory materials for medical applications.
  • Sustainable Nonconventional machining of biomaterials.
  • Hybrid manufacturing and its application in biomedical applications.

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI -Advances in Sustainable and Green Manufacturing for Biomaterials".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
