Summary and scope
Today, multiple strategies that include the use of alternate materials, form design, topology optimization, and part consolidation are being widely explored by researchers in the design stage for enhancing the performance of structures/products and to harness recyclability and sustainability of materials through advanced manufacturing technologies. The above approach in product design and manufacturing could drive manufacturing industries towards circular economy eliminating the wastage of materials. Simulation driven design encompassing topology based design optimisation and data driven generative design have been rapidly evolving to perform multiple iterations to arrive at effective solutions with minimal usage of materials pertaining to a wide range of applications. This special issue is intended to provide a forum for academic researchers and engineers to disseminate their recent works in the field of mechanical, aerospace, automotive and biomedical engineering applications. The proposed solutions may include the manufacturing aspects such as design for additive manufacturing and design for recyclability.

The following topics are of interest:

  • Form design of structures
  • Alternate materials for product design
  • Application of numerical simulation at various stages of product design
  • Multi-objective optimization in design
  • Design for additive manufacturing of products
  • Generative design
  • Process design and simulation of conventional and AM processes
  • Digital twin for additive manufacturing

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI - Simulation Driven Design for Enhancing Product Performance".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
