Summary and scope
This Special Issue will particularly focus on emphasizing the potential for interdisciplinary interactions between traditional modeling approaches and advanced modeling approaches, that can include virtual manufacturing processes as a source of new information for sustainable product development.

This Special Issue includes the following topics:

  • The sustainable product design and manufacturing using Computing and Numerical Modelling
  • Use of Computing and Numerical Modelling for developing sustainable approach of additive manufacturing processes.
  • Manufacturability in design of composites, multi-materials, multi-scale structures, and hollow structures.
  • Advanced modelling design and production in surface modification processes like microwave processing of materials using sustainable approaches.
  • Hybrid manufacturing and design for systems with diverse materials.

The following topics are of special interest:

  • Modeling, simulation, and control of manufacturing systems for sustainable product development
  • Advanced modelling design and production in surface modification processes and Modelling, simulation, and control of manufacturing systems.
  • Sustainability in the early stages of product design and development; Design and modelling for the long-term viability of additive manufacturing.
  • Predication of performance of manufactured products with design models using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI - Role of Computing and Numerical Modelling in the sustainable Product Design and Development". 

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
