International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing (IJIDeM) - Special Issue on Advances in Computational-Based Analysis Joining Techniques

Guest-Editor:
Dr. Velaphi Msomi, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa

Submission Status: Closed

Summary and scope
Manufacturing of structures includes the joining of different materials. The fact that different materials are being used suggests that the joining techniques should be compatible with both materials. However, recent developments have shown that there is still a lot that needs to be understood with various joining techniques especially the newly discovered joining technique called friction stir welding (FSW). The optimization of these processes is mostly conducted experimentally which leads to waste and time costs. To reduce waste and save time, a numerical based analysis is recommended.

This special issue will be focusing on the computational-based analysis of the joints formed from different joining techniques. This includes the joining of similar and dissimilar materials.

The following topics are of special interest:

  • Friction stir welding
  • Friction welding
  • Welding similar metals
  • Welding dissimilar metals
  • Microstructural analysis of joints
  • Process optimization

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “SI - Advances in Computational-Based Analysis Joining Techniques".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.
