Science and Engineering Ethics is an international multidisciplinary journal dedicated to exploring ethical issues associated with science and engineering, covering professional education, research and practice as well as the effects of technological innovations and research findings on society.

While the focus of this journal is on science and engineering, contributions from a broad range of disciplines, including social sciences and humanities, are welcomed. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, ethics of new and emerging technologies, research ethics, computer ethics, energy ethics, animals and human subjects ethics, ethics education in science and engineering, ethics in design, biomedical ethics, values in technology and innovation.

We welcome contributions that deal with these issues from an international perspective, particularly from countries that are underrepresented in these discussions.

  • Explores ethical issues of concern to scientists and engineers
  • Covers professional education, standards and ethics in research and practice

  • Announcing the inaugural Computational Research Integrity Conference 2021 (CRI-CONF 2021)

    When: March 23 - 25, 2021
    Where: Virtual
    Registration or contribution submission:

This conference's goal is to bring together research integrity officers, scientists, editors, publishers, and computer scientists to discuss scientific misconduct investigations and the opportunities and current limitations of computational methods for flagging potential scientific misconduct automatically. We hope that attendees will leave this conference with a clearer sense of the constraints and opportunities of each others' approaches.

If you work in research integrity, image/video forensics, plagiarism, educational aspects of research integrity, or any field related to research integrity and computational methods, this conference is for you. If you regularly attend the World Conference on Research Integrity (, postponed for next year), you might be interested in coming as well.

We also have a small number of slots for contributed presentations. Consider submitting your extended abstract:

    Submission deadline: March 1, 2021
    Acceptance notification: March 8, 2021
Registration deadline for accepted work: March 15, 2021

  • Call for Papers: Research ethics in emerging economies and developing countries (Deadline March 31, 2021)

Please direct any inquiries to the Editors in Chief

Much has been written in the US and the EU about the impacts of systematic expectations and pressures on the production of scientific knowledge and more specifically, increasing scientific output as publications. Some of the scholarship in research ethics has emerged against the backdrop of malpractice, research misconduct and other problematic responses to such pressure. Much less is known, however, about how these pressures and their consequences are manifest in emerging economies and developing nations.
