Journal of Coastal Conservation - Message from the Editor-in-Chief

Journal of Coastal Conservation celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016!

To Our Readers:

In 2016, the Journal of Coastal Conservation Planning and Management celebrates its 20th anniversary of publication.

The Journal began life in 1995 as the Journal of Coastal Conservation (JCC). The official journal of what was then the European Union of Coastal Conservation (EUCC) was originally published in Sweden by Opulus Press. With my help the Journal was subsequently passed on to Springer in 2004 when it adopted a new cover, image and title as the Journal of Coastal Conservation Planning and Management (JCCMP). Continuity and evolution was seen to be a very important element of the future success of this Journal, whilst also expanding the coverage of the Journal and its readership.

Now the official journal of The Coastal and Marine Union, 2016 sees the publication of Volume 20.

In 2011, The Journal of Coastal Conservation Planning and Management changed from two to four issues per year. It is an international journal with an international editorial board and an international readership. Containing a very diverse range of articles, the Journal has also successfully published a number of Special Issues (SI) on topics ranging from Human-altered Coastal Systems: Processes, Monitoring, and Management to Conservation, Management and Restoration of Coastal Cliffs.

With the commitment and support of Springer the Journal has continued to go from strength to strength with an online Editorial Management (EM) and submission system, a dedicated website, and both Online First publication as well as the hardcopy printed version of the journal. In addition, open source and free colour illustrations have continued to provide authors with an important and valued opportunity for publication.

Our future commitment is to continue to provide an international journal that embraces many different aspects of coastal conservation, planning and management and to publish the best quality papers we can.

As we mark this important milestone, on behalf of Springer and myself, as Editor in Chief, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of our authors, reviewers and Editorial Board over the past 20 years for their continued dedication to the Journal by submitting their scientific research, to voluntarily devoting their time to reviewing the papers submitted, and to providing an infrastructure that supports the production of the Journal. Last but not least, to thank Springer and all their staff in their various different roles for help in getting this Journal online and into print each year. Without this collaborative effort by everyone we would not be able to produce the Journal.

I would also like to thank the original editors, Professors Eddy van der Maarel, Frank van der Meulen and Roland Paskoff for starting this journal, and Opulus Press the original publishers.

In the meantime, please take some time to reflect upon and to celebrate the continued success of the Journal of Coastal Conservation, Planning and Management in 2016.

Thank you and we look forward to your continued support in the future.

Yours sincerely,

David R. Green
