Logica Universalis - Logic Prizes Contest

The 1st Logic Prizes Contest was organized during UNILOG'2018 (6th World Congress and School in Universal Logic) in Vichy, France, June 16-26, 2018.

There was the participation of winners of 9 different countries (Canada, Greece, Russia, Brazil, Croatia, France, India, Italy, Poland). All the contestants presented their work during a special session Sunday 24.

At the end of the day it was decided which was the best paper by a jury formed by 7 world famous logicians:

Göran Sundholm, Leiden, The Netherlands; Hartry Field, New York, USA; Grzegorz Malinowski, Lódz, Poland; Michèle Friend, Washington, USA; Ahti-Veikko Pietarine, Astana, Kazakhstan; Peter Schroeder-Heister, Tübingen, Germany; Leon van der Torre, Luxemburg.

The winner of the First Logic Prizes Contest was Ivan Varzinczak with the paper

''A Note on a Description Logic of Concept and Role Typicality for Defeasible Reasoning Over Ontologies'' (this opens in a new tab)

Ivan Varzinczak was participating to the contest as the winner of the Louis Couturat Logic Prize from France. He is currently affiliated in France to the Université d’Artois and the CNRS and in South Africa to the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, Stellenbosch University.

As the winner of the universal logic prize, he will be a keynote speaker of the next UNILOG scheduled for 2021 in Greece. He also won a 500 euros voucher offered by Birkhäuser and his paper is published in a special issue of Logica Universalis gathering the papers of the other logic prizes winners:
