Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering - Call for papers: Special Issue “Cutting-edge research under the European Green Deal: Water Resources Engineering”
Climate change, environmental degradation, energy security, food security and scarce water resources are key global challenges of our times. To address these challenges, the European Commission has adopted a set of measures such as the European Green Deal to transform the EU to be climate-neutral. However, the transition is not easy. Polluted water resources, energy-intensive water treatment, and inefficient resource recycling are leading to greenhouse gas emissions and wasting of resources. Disruptive ideas, new insights, sustainable strategies and novel technologies are urgently needed to support the realization of the European Green Deal. The goal of this special issue is to publish cutting-edge research in the broad field of water resources engineering under the European Green Deal.
We invite high quality submissions on novel and sustainable strategies for water and wastewater treatment, management, reuse, and safe disposal. We also invite papers that describe the Life-Cycle-Assessment (LCA) on water use and treatment, contaminant distribution, and aquatic impacts of emerging contaminants. Submissions closely linked with the European Green Deal actions are highly welcomed.
Typical topics may include, but not limited to,
● Topic 1: Water quality and environmental impacts (e.g., distribution and effects of emerging contaminants in water)
● Topic 2: Sustainable water and wastewater treatment, including advanced treatment technologies, closed-loop technologies and strategies for resource recovery from wastewater.
● Topic 3: Water and wastewater reuse
● Topic 4: Water resource management
● Topic 5: Life cycle assessment on water use and treatment
● Topic 6: Big Data and Modeling on Water Resources
