Journal of Central South University - Call for paper: special issue on “Recent advances in enhanced heat transfer” in the Journal of Central South University

Enhanced heat transfer methods are widely encountered in many disciplines of science and engineering, such as the energy management, aerospace science, mechanical engineering, material science, biology and biophysics, chemical and petroleum engineering and more. Several active and passive techniques, such as increasing the surface area in contact with the fluid by using various types of fins or baffles inside channels, changing channel's shape, implementing vortex generators, magnetic control of ferrofluids, using centrally hollow narrow twisted tapes, applications of porous media and employing nanofluids have been exploited. In the last decades, various analytical, numerical and experimental investigations have been performed about enhanced heat transfer.

The objective of proposing this special issue is to provide a top-notch platform for world renowned researchers in the area of enhanced heat transfer to report their most up-to-date high-quality progress and highlight the possible future directions from their professional insights. Theoretical derivation, model development, engineering application, and experimental validation on enhanced heat transfer techniques from nano to environmental scales are highly welcome to this special issue. Proposed sub-topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. State-of-the-art review and perspective on recent activities and foreseeable future directions in advanced enhanced heat transfer techniques.
  2. New model derivation and algorithm development for numerical enhanced heat transfer from nano/micro-scale to environmental scale.
  3. Experimental investigations including enhanced heat transfer to improve thermal performance of energy systems.
  4. Application of traditional and novel high performance computing and artificial intelligence techniques in enhanced heat transfer problems.
  5. Cross-scale coupling of numerical heat transfer, such as the coupling of molecular dynamics simulation for thermal conductivity and computational fluid dynamics for temperature gradient driven fluid flow
  6. Analysis of coupled fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reaction such as boiling, evaporation, condensation, combustion and reactive flow phenomena.
  7. Analysis of complex heat transfer problems, such as multiphase, nanofluid, non-Newtonian, and external field (electro, magnetic) induced heat transfer.

Applied papers are preferred and the following topics are of interest:

  1. Heat exchangers
  2. Renewable energy heat transfer units
  3. Thermal energy storage
  4. Heat transfer in bio-engineering
  5. Reactive flows with heat transfer
  6. Multi-phase and particulate flows
  7. Heat transfer in porous media
  8. Thermal control of fuel cells, reactors and more.
  9. Thermal enhanced oil recovery from petroleum reservoirs
  10. Desalination and water treatment
  11. Heat transfer in turbulent flows
  12. Thermal control in manufacturing
  13. Other applied problems including passive and active enhanced heat transfer techniques
