Aims and scope

The Journal of Phase Equilibria and Diffusion (JPED) is an archival, peer-reviewed, bimonthly publication that focuses on the crystallographic, chemical, diffusion, thermodynamic, and kinetic properties of phases in inorganic materials systems with special emphasis on alloy systems. It features critically reviewed basic and applied research results, as well as critical phase diagram evaluations of scientifically and industrially important materials. JPED covers new research techniques, equipment, modeling, data evaluation, nomenclature, presentation, and other aspects, in particular phase diagram preparation and use. It includes information on kinetic control of equilibrium, phase transformation, solidification, coherency effects, impurity effects, and environmental performance.

The classes of articles in the journal are:

Research Article: Articles describing original work on experimental, theoretical investigations, or new interpretations of existing problems that contribute to the knowledge of materials. The methods that were employed to obtain the reported results must be presented in a clear and concise manner that enables reproducibility.

Review: Articles providing an overview of the current state-of-the-art research on a particular subject.

Evaluation: Articles reporting the critical evaluation of experimental and theoretical phase equilibria, thermodynamic, or diffusion data.

Viewpoint: Articles expressing an author’s view on a specific topic that is within the scope of this journal.

Short Communication: This class provides an avenue for rapid publication of potentially important results and up-to-date information. Articles in this category are usually less than 3000 words long.
