Aims and scope
Publizistik ("Communication Science") publishes scientific research from all areas of communication science.
Each issue contains four major articles (research reports), editorial content (encomiums of representatives of disciplines, appointments, habilitations and obituaries) and book reviews. In addition, essays and columns as well as the sections "Forum", "Communication Science International" and "Media Politics International" are published at irregular intervals. The topics of the essays reflect the self-conception of communication studies as a systematic social science. One focus is the presentation of empirical research results (for example on media content, media use and media effects). Studies on political communication and media politics, journalism and communicator research as well as the history and development of communication science are also traditional subjects.
More recently, Publizistik has increasingly included articles on network and online media. Contributions to media history no longer characterize the journal as strongly as in the early years.
In the six decades of its existence, Publizistik has published most of the well-known representatives of journalism and communication science in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland. However, the journal welcomes submissions by young researchers.
The editorial board forwards all submitted manuscripts to an acting editor and two external reviewers. Adhering to a strict double-blind peer review policy, the editorial board ensures that the authors of the respective submissions as well as the reviewers remain anonymous. Editorial reviews and the two external reviews are the basis for the acceptance or rejection of the submission, with more weight being given to the external reviews. Criteria for review are theoretical foundation, relevance of the research question, method, presentation and language.
