Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A - Call for Papers “SPECIAL ISSUE: Advances in Navigation and Marine Engineering of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships”

The last decade has witnessed the rapid development and enormous challenges of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS). MASS possesses merits such as low operating costs and control requirements, high safety and repeatability, and strong adaptability to meteorological and geographic environments. In recent years, there emerged many research focuses such as intelligent manufacturing, route planning, environment perception, control, collaborating, and fault diagnosis, which covering the whole processes of MASS’s design, manufacturing, operation and management. With the rapid advancement of computational intelligence, automation, and unmanned technology, MASS has emerged as a prominent topic within the maritime industry, offering significant prospects for future growth. This special issue focuses on the latest developments and technologies pertaining to advances in navigation and marine engineering of MASS.

Focal points of the special issue include, but are not limited to innovative applications:

  1. Intelligent design and manufacture of marine vehicles.
  2. Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for ship and marine equipment.
  3. Digital twins in shipbuilding and ship operation.
  4. Equipment prognostics and health management.
  5. Maritime life cycle management.
  6. Intelligent guidance, control and sensor of autonomous surface ships.
  7. Environment perception and smart ship.
  8. Route planning and collision avoidance.
  9. Marine safety and green shipping.
  10. Autonomous shipping industry and its future perspective.
