Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A - Call for Papers "SPECIAL ISSUE: Advanced Ocean Wave Energy Harvesting: Mechanisms, Technologies and Applications"

Background

Wave energy harvesting, the technology that generates electrical power from the specific mechanical energy of ocean waves, marked its debut serval decades ago and rekindled the enthusiasm of research on sustainable marine green energy. Ocean wave energy has been experiencing rapid development in recent years, and it is projected that this will remain extremely relevant, over the next several decades, in the field of ocean engineering, materials science and structural analysis among researchers, engineers, and practitioners. However, technical challenges have been associated with the current progress of traditional wave energy technologies in efficiency, survivability and cost, which have hampered the development and deployment of ocean wave energy. This issue has been exacerbated by the spreading requirements of powering multifunctional devices and systems in interdisciplinary applications. The next-generation ocean wave energy harvesting technology will significantly depend on the rapid development in resolving the efficiency, survivability and cost issues in traditional wave energy technologies. Research efforts have been dedicated to unveiling the mechanisms and technologies of cutting-edge wave energy-related technologies and exploring their multifunctional applications in energy harvesting.

Goal

This special issue emphasizes the emerging research interests of advanced ocean wave energy harvesting in recent years, while taking action to compile the understanding on the mechanisms and technologies for energy harvesting applications. This special issue may open to other topics broadly related to energy harvesting under other types of external excitations and maximizing the power generation performance using data-driven tools, such as multiscale design and analysis, response prediction, performance optimization, etc.
