Mycological Progress - New Editor-in-Chief Marco Thines

Mycological Progress is pleased to introduce our new Editor-in-Chief, Marco Thines.

Marco Thines is a Professor of Biological Archives and Evolutionary Analyses at the Goethe University and the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He is currently the president of the German Mycological Society and an elected member of the International Commission on the Taxonomy of Fungi and the Nomenclature Committee for Fungi. In the past he had been the founder of a diagnostics company and leads a large-scale programme for real-time detection of pathogens. His current research interests include the evolution, ecology and systematics of oomycetes and obligate biotrophic pathogens from other groups. For his research he employs a wide range of topics, including cell biology, field work and experimentation, functional genetics, genomics, and various types of microscopy. Thines received is PhD in biology from Hohenheim University in Germany where he also did his habilitation (qualification for full professorships), later went on to the Sainsbury Laboratory in the UK and was appointed as professor at Goethe University in 2010.
