Call for Papers: Special Issue on Simulation and AI

Simulation is an important area in Operations Research, Management Science and many disciplines, and it has many advantages in analyzing the performance of complex stochastic models. Over the last 15 years, AI has been gaining steam and fundamentally reshaped a number of current and emerging areas. Simulation plays a central role in deep learning and reinforcement learning, which are the foundation of AI, and it can continue improving the AI techniques, particularly in addressing some of its bottlenecks. AI techniques have also contributed to recent advances in simulation research.

We propose to organize a special issue on Simulation and AI in the Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering. This special issue is devoted to publishing the latest significant results and discussing new opportunities and challenges for the two areas, i.e., state-of-the-art research at the intersection of simulation and AI.  Potential topics include, but are not limited to

  • Simulation and AI methodologies
  • Simulation-based machine learning
  • AI-boosted simulation modeling and optimization
  • Simulation and AI in parallel computing environment
  • Applications of simulation and AI

Manuscript Submission Information

The special issue will not accept any paper that, at the time of submission, is under review or, has already been published in, or has already been accepted for publication in, a journal or another venue with formally published proceedings. Authors are also required not to submit their papers to any other venues with formal publication during the review period.

If part of the work has been previously published, authors are required to cite and compare/contrast the new contributions with the parts that were already published before. The paper must substantially extend the previously published work.

A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.

Important Dates

Deadline for manuscript submissions: 1 July 2022
Result notification: August 2022
