Enhancing health span through anti-aging dietary interventions

Associate Editors: Dr. Stefano Tarantini, Dr. Rafael de Cabo, and Dr. Vincenzo Lionetti

Editor-in-Chief: Dr. Zoltan Ungvari

We cordially invite the submission of original research articles, opinion papers, and review articles addressing the impact of diverse dietary interventions and eating patterns on age-related physiological decline in various organ systems, as well as their role in preventing and treating age-related diseases. Recent studies have demonstrated the remarkable potential of dietary interventions to induce biochemical and physiological changes that enhance organismal resilience and activate protective pathways. By slowing down cellular and molecular aging processes, these interventions can significantly contribute to the prevention of age-related diseases.

We strongly encourage the submission of original research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, and perspectives that explore the efficacy of different anti-aging dietary interventions, including calorie restriction, alternate day fasting, time-restricted feeding, and fasting-mimicking diets to improve phenotypic outcomes such as reversal of cardiovascular, cognitive, and musculoskeletal decline in aging. This themed issue aims to shed light on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-aging effects of dietary interventions, with a particular focus on the up-regulation of cellular resilience pathways, epigenetic mechanisms, attenuation of inflammatory processes, improvement of mitochondrial function, and reduction of reactive oxygen species generation. We enthusiastically welcome manuscripts reporting the findings of preclinical investigations conducted on various animal models of aging and age-related diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's disease, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, arthritis). Additionally, we seek submissions of clinical trials exploring the feasibility of anti-aging dietary interventions for the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases.

All manuscripts accepted through this Call for Papers will be featured in a unique online article collection that highlights the paramount importance of this topic. To ensure consideration, please submit your manuscripts online at [submission link: https://www.editorialmanager.com/jaaa/default.aspx (this opens in a new tab)].

During the submission process, please indicate your response to the Call for Papers "Anti-aging dietary interventions" by checking the relevant box.

The submitted manuscripts will undergo the customary peer-review process and will be published online upon acceptance.

Published articles resulting from this Call for Papers will be distinguished with a special "Call for Papers" banner on the article PDF, and they will be included in the "Enhancing health span through anti-aging dietary intervention" online article collection at the time of publication. We encourage the submission of cover image ideas as well.

The submission of manuscripts in response to this Call for Papers is ongoing. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Stefano Tarantini via email at stefano-tarantini@ouhsc.edu (this opens in a new tab).
