GeroScience - Call for Papers

Cell Biology of Vascular Aging

Guest Editors:  Prof. Zoltan Arany, Prof. Jalees Rehman and Dr. Siobhan Craige.

Deputy Editor Dr. Stefano Tarantini and Editor-in-Chief Dr. Zoltan Ungvari, and the editorial team of GeroScience (Official Journal of the American Aging Association, published by Springer) invite submission of original research articles, opinion papers and review articles related to research focused on understanding the mechanisms involved in vascular aging, the factors promoting accelerated aging in vascular cells and the role of vascular cells in the pathogenesis of age-related diseases. This call-for-papers is aimed at providing a platform for the dissemination of critical novel ideas related to the mechanisms of vascular aging as well as mechanisms related to key phenotypes of vascular aging including

  • endothelial dysfunction, endothelial barrier disruption and atherogenesis;
  • the pathogenic role of endothelial and pericyte heterogeneity;
  • tumor vascular biology;
  • biomechanical cues regulating vascular homeostasis and aging;
  • communication between distinct vascular beds during aging and disease progression;
  • the pathogenic role of endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition;
  • the development of novel models and technologies to study vascular aging including but not limited to computational approaches and engineered platforms.

We are especially interested in manuscripts exploring the role of molecular mechanisms of aging in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. aorta aneurysm, atherosclerotic vascular diseases, microvascular pathologies of the skeletal muscle and the central nervous system, kidney disease, liver, etc) and the genesis of accelerated vascular aging phenotypes associated with COVID-19, hypertension, obesity and metabolic diseases.

All manuscripts accepted from this Call for Papers will be included in a unique online article collection to further highlight the importance of this topic. All manuscripts should be submitted online here: https://www.editorialmanager.com/jaaa/default.aspx (this opens in a new tab)

Please indicate during the submission process by checking the relevant box that the manuscript is submitted in response to the Call for Papers “Cell Biology of Vascular Aging”. Manuscripts will undergo normal peer review as they are received. Manuscripts will be published online as they are accepted. Articles published from this Call for Papers will be highlighted with a special “Call for Papers” banner on the article PDF, as well as included in the " Cell Biology of Vascular Aging” online article collection at time of publication.

Submission of cover image ideas is encouraged. The submission of manuscripts in response to this Call for Papers is continuous. If you have any question please contact Dr. Zoltan Ungvari via email at zoltan-ungvari@ouhsc.edu (this opens in a new tab) .
