Environmental Science and Pollution Research - Call for Papers: Special Issue on Sustainable Wastewater Treatment and Management (ICAWTM-24)

The wastewater treatment plants remove pollutants from domestic and industrial effluents to protect the human health as well as the ecosystems. There are few challenges under consideration which are associated with sustainable water treatment and management to reduce their environmental impact, low-cost solutions, and integrating with the circular economy. There are a wide range of contaminants generated by each type of industry, which require different types of treatment processes and their management in a sustainable and suitable way. To achieve this, there are two major factors affecting, one: Sustainable wastewater treatment in which, the energy consumption and greenhouse gasses emissions are key factors concerning the overall performance of the treatment plant, two: Sustainable wastewater management in which, the valuable resource such as energy, clean water, nutrients, and value-added products can be extracted or produced to close material cycles. To achieve these, the development of new technologies and processes and its sustainable management is necessary.

This Special Issue will provide a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, and insightful analysis of the issues that need to be considered in the water sector for a better development of the society. The researchers across the globe will be invited to come forward from multidisciplinary areas and contribute their ideas, in the area of wastewater treatment and its management. It will provide an opportunity to publish the developments in the domain of wastewater.

Within the above-described framework, this special issue invites authors to contribute papers addressing the following topics:

  • Contaminants in wastewater
  • Novice and innovative wastewater treatment technologies
  • Chemical and biological processes for wastewater treatment
  • Phytoremediation and Bioremediation technologies for wastewater treatment
  • Novel materials for wastewater treatment
  • Wastewater treatment using immobilized microorganism technology
  • Cost effective methods for removal of dyes and heavy metals
  • Biomimetics/Nature-based solutions
  • Wastewater in context of reduce, recycling and reuse approach
  • Resources recovery
  • SDGs impact assessment
  • Life-cycle assessment
  • Sustainability and water management
