Call for Papers for the Special Issue on Multi-scale and Multi-physics Processes in Geological Systems with Fractured Porous Media

Resulting from InterPore 2022

An in-depth understanding of fluid flow, mass transport and rock deformation in fractured porous media has extensive implications for engineering subsurface systems including waste disposal, oil and natural gas recovery, geothermal energy extraction, and CO2 sequestration. Recent advances in computational and experimental techniques have shed new light on the multi-scale and multi-physics processes in geological systems with complex discrete fracture networks (DFNs). As a result, there has been growing interest in developing novel experimental and computational methods that can expand our understanding, quantifying and predictive capabilities for various engineering processes. This special issue broadly invites submissions that present new experimental and analytical/numerical methods that focus on a broad area of flow and transport physics in fractured porous media. Topics include but are not limited to: 

  • Digital rock reconstruction and analysis of fractured rocks
  • Multi-scale flow, transport and mechanical processes in fractured reservoirs
  • New concepts, theories, methods, experiments, and techniques in fractured reservoirs
  • New analytical, numerical and experimental methods
  • Modeling and meshing of fractured reservoirs
  • Inverse modeling of fractured reservoirs
  • Artificial intelligence aided computations in fractured reservoirs
