Original research papers

A manuscript for a research paper should be assembled in the following order: Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Key words, Abstract, Abbreviations, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (Results and Discussion may be combined in shorter manuscripts), Acknowledgements, Statements & Declarations, References, Tables, legends to figures, figures. A short key message (30 words maximum) should also be provided. Papers that only evaluate a new method/analytical approach or that critically examine existing practice may be considered, provided their conclusion is of wide interest to plant scientists.

Review papers

A manuscript for a review should be assembled in the following order: Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Key words, Abstract, Abbreviations, main text, Acknowledgements, Statements & Declarations, References, Tables, legends to figures, figures. Papers may be standard review manuscripts, comprehensively covering significant developments and progress in an area in recent years, or shorter mini-reviews focusing on more specific aspects of a domain and/or on the latest developments in it.

Perspective papers

These are typically short and to-the-point manuscripts addressing a viewpoint on a specific research domain. They are expected to discuss the ongoing research, new advances and future directions, and be accompanied with a clear presentation of the perspective. Although it is not their main vocation, this type of article may also include original data, personal insights and opinions.
