A Journal for Solar and Solar-Stellar Research and the Study of Solar-Terrestrial Physics

Publishing model:

Solar Physics - Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief Solar Physics

Springer Nature is seeking to appoint a new Editor-in-Chief for the journal Solar Physics. The new recruit would succeed Dr. John Leibacher, who will be retiring as Editor-in-Chief of the journal at the end of December 2023.

Solar Physics is the only dedicated journal for solar research since 1967. It reports on all aspects of solar physics, from the Sun’s internal structure and evolution to the outer corona and solar wind in interplanetary space. Relevant papers on stellar research and solar-terrestrial physics are also published.

We solicit nominations and statements of interest for candidates with strong research credentials, proven ability to exercise scientific and professional judgement, and diligence in respecting deadlines. Candidates from all areas of solar physics research are encouraged to apply. For this opening we have a particular interest in candidates working in North America.

The initial appointment is for two years, with an option for renewal by mutual consent, and carries an honorarium. The new Editor will join continuing Editors Iñigo Arregui, Cristina Mandrini, and Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi with shared responsibility for the solicitation and peer review of manuscripts. A time commitment of around 10 hours per week is expected.

As further benefit from the editorial work, an Editor-in-Chief has the opportunity to influence the direction of the journal – and thus the field – by making recommendations about submissions, special issues (Topical Collection), invited articles, and new Editorial Board members.

Please send a nomination or brief statement of interest and qualifications to SolarPhysicsEditors@gmail.com (this opens in a new tab). Please feel free to contact any of us to discuss this exciting and rewarding opportunity. We will start considering applications in January 2024, with the objective of filling the position in Q1 of 2024.
