Solar Physics - Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Waves and Oscillations in the Sun’s Corona and MHD Coronal Seismology

Complete article collection published in Solar Physics

The article collection on "Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Waves and Oscillations in the Sun’s Corona and MHD Coronal Seismology" has been completed and is now published in the journal Solar Physics

Established in the late 1990s, solar MHD seismology has rapidly grown into a unique tool for diagnostics of the solar atmospheric plasma. This Topical Collection (this opens in a new tab) presents the current state-of-the-art in the field, addressing both observational and theoretical aspects: from oscillations in coronal loops and filaments to quasi-periodic pulsations in flares, MHD wave dynamics in non-adiabatic coronal conditions, waves in the lower atmosphere, and novel techniques and approaches to theoretical modelling and data analysis.

The publication of this topical collection was inspired by the conference (this opens in a new tab) ‘‘MHD Coronal Seismology 2020: Twenty Years of Probing the Sun’s Corona with MHD Waves’’, organised by D. Kolotkov (University of Warwick, UK), B. Li (Shandong University Weihai, China), S. Anfinogentov (Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics, Russia), K. Murawski (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Poland), G. Nisticò (University of Calabria, Italy), D. Tsiklauri (now at the University of Georgia, Georgia), and T. Van Doorsselaere (KU Leuven, Belgium) in December 2020
